Written in Our Tenth Year

To everyone who keeps their work in Eagle

OGDESIGN · The Eagle Team

We started as a design agency

OGDESIGN, the team behind Eagle, is a design studio in Taipei that spent years doing client work. Reference images, screenshots, fonts and files from past projects kept piling up across websites, download folders and different apps. Saving things was never the hard part. Finding them again a year later was.

Our founder started as an engineer before moving into UI design. We tried the tools that existed. Some only handled photos, some couldn’t keep up with daily work, and some went quiet after we sent in suggestions, never to be updated again.

When the right tool didn’t exist,
we built it ourselves.

Eagle 1.0 launched in 2017. It began as an internal tool for our own team: save an image you like in one click, and actually find it again later.

It turned out everyone had the same problem

After launch, we found that designers all over the world were stuck in the same place. Over the next few years Eagle came to Windows, working on both macOS and Windows, and gained font management, search by image, color analysis, video bookmarks and the Eagle API. Most of those hundred-plus features came from people’s feedback.

Eagle 2.0 arrived in 2021, and Eagle 3.0 and the Eagle Community followed in 2022, as we marked our fifth year together.

Letting everyone work their own way

Everyone works differently, and we could never build every feature for everyone. Eagle 4.0 in 2024 brought a new interface and a plugin system you can build with web technology. Today, plugins from us and from third-party developers live in the Plugin Center.

Adding AI to Eagle 4

In 2026 we began adding AI to Eagle 4. AI Search analyzes assets on your computer so you can find them by describing what you remember. AI Action names, tags and sorts files by your rules. AI assistants can connect to Eagle through MCP.

Building these features showed us two things. First, AI can now understand an image’s composition, tone and style, so an asset no longer has to sit in the “right folder” to be found. Second, the old foundation was designed for people organizing by hand, and it couldn’t carry the way work was heading.

So we rebuilt it from the ground up

In our tenth year, Eagle 5 arrives. It is our first AI-native version: not AI added to an old version, but rewritten from its foundation with AI in mind. The familiar ways to collect, organize, search and browse are all still here. It’s faster, works across multiple windows and can be self-hosted, and agents can help organize within the permissions you give them, with you approving the important changes.

What hasn’t changed in ten years

  • Your assets stay yours. Your library lives where you choose, not locked on Eagle’s servers.
  • We start from design work. We are a design studio ourselves, and every feature comes from problems we meet in real work.
  • AI strengthens, it doesn’t replace. AI makes things smoother, and the decisions stay with you.

Thank you to the more than 400,000 paid users who have supported us and shared feedback over these ten years. For the next ten, we’ll keep doing this one thing well.
